Curriculum
The
Calamvale Special School Curriculum was initially
developed by the staff of Calamvale, Kuraby and
Sunnybank Special Schools in 2004.
Every
students educational program is developed using each
of the five curriculum tools. They are:
The
school curriculum document is best described as a
set of outcome statements that attempt to describe
the academic achievements and personal skills we
believe students attending Calamvale Special School
should try to achieve during their time at school.
Its important to note that the curriculum document
contains the outcomes we hope students will have
achieved when they graduate from the school at 17 or
18 years of age. Of course, some students will
move well past some of these outcome statements and
be undertaking extension activities by the time they
leave school while others may not have been able to
reach some of the more challenging outcomes -
everyone has different abilities and skills and our
curriculum tools are designed to allows for this.
Because
the curriculum contains high level outcomes that
students aim to achieve by the time they are ready
to leave school, the teachers must interpret these
outcomes and develop goals and activities that will
help students develop the sub-skills that are needed
to allow students to eventually achieve the full
outcome. Each teacher documents this process
in their classroom
curriculum.
